Abstract
This seminar aims to explore the diversity of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, through the scope of migration and in relation to climate change, focusing specifically on Tuti, an island located at the confluence of the Blue and White Nile. This analysis is part of a VR-funded research project entitled “Resilience in Urban Sudan (RUS): An Interdisciplinary Spatial and Temporal Study of Social Cohesion and Resilience to tackle the consequences of Climate and Environmental Change in Urban Khartoum”.
The RUS project is led by Malmö University in collaboration with LUCSUS at Lund University and the Institute of Environmental Studies (IES) of the University of Khartoum. By introducing an historical background of the migration distribution in Sudan, this seminar will then focus on the recent migration patterns in Khartoum and provide with first empirical data collected on the ground dealing with current actions that are developed to face climate change.
